Abstract

Emily Dickinson’s (1830-1886) and Fadwa Tawqan’s (1917-2003) works are notable for their anti-patriarchal protests. They are both women whose primary purpose is to make women’s voices heard and their inner worlds expressed. This thesis attempts to analyze the poetry and the lives of both Emily Dickinson and Fadwa Tawqan in the context of feminism. Dickinson was from a distinguished family in Amherst, Massachusetts, and Tawqan came from a famous family in Nablus, Palestine. Both Dickinson and Tawqan are women who have experienced combat.
