Abstract

The term ”sustainable development” was coined by the IUCN’s 1980 World Conservation Strategy (IUCN, UNEP, and WWF, 1980). It said that ”for growth to be sustainable, social and ecological issues, as well as economic ones, must be considered.” The Brundtland Report (WCED, 1987) then provided further guidance for comprehensive global solutions. It defined the concept of long-term development as well as economic ones”. The Brundtland Report (WCED, 1987) then provided further guidance for comprehensive global solutions. Sustainable development is defined as development that ”meets the requirements of the current generation without jeopardizing future generation’s ability to fulfill their own needs.” (Moldan et al., 2012).A historic United Nations Summit in September 2015 saw the unveiling of the global 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as well as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) that it contains, with ultimate ambition and a revolutionary vision. The Addis Ababa Action Agenda (AAAA) for financing development was adopted in July 2015, and the Paris Agreement for Climate Change was adopted in December of the same year, making 2015 the year of negotiations that flagged the way for reshaping the new paradigm for sustainable development for the next 15 years (Ashour and Ibrahim, 2018).
