Abstract
Both Rezum therapy and B-TURP are effective and durable treatment modalities for treating BPH over the course of 2 years. We found statistically significant improvement in all parameters of IPSS, Q-max, and PVR after surgeries. However, Rezum therapy has fewer complications making it a viable alternative to B-TURP especially in sexually active patients as it preserves both erectile and ejaculatory functions.
Rezum therapy offers a competitive retreatment rate when compared to other surgical procedures. We can draw the conclusion that patients ought to prefer a quick, minimally invasive treatment over more invasive treatments. By assuring proper treatment of the median lobe and determining when a concomitant bladder neck incision (BNI) should be taken into consideration, the retreatment rate may be reduced even further. More investigation is required to study these issues in greater detail and determine whether specific gland characteristics may indicate a poor outcome. It is possible that improvements in the delivery device itself and the best location for water vapour injections will produce better outcomes and a lower retreatment rate. Longer-term follow-up and comparison studies should be included in future investigations.
