Abstract

Ultrasound is the gold standard initial tool for assessment of the thyroid nodules and their need for FNAC. While, FNAC confirms the benign nature of most examined nodules, a group of thyroid nodules are given the term (indeterminate cytology) with a possibility of malignancy less than 50%. Surgical biopsy remains the gold standard confirmatory test in discriminating benign from malignant thyroid nodules. Accordingly, a large number of thyroid nodules may undergo unneeded surgeries. Objective: assessment of the efficacy of strain elastography in diagnosing thyroid malignancy.
