Abstract Two medicinal plants (Fagonia arabica and Berberis vulgaris) were tested in this study. F. arabica is belonging to Zygophyllaceae family and Berberis vulgaris is belonging to Berberidaceae family. Aqueous and ethanolic extracts were prepared to investigate the antibacterial activities of both plants. These extracts were tested against different pathogenic bacteria by well diffusion method. For F.arabica two strains of pathogenic bacteria (E. coli and S.aureus) were tested but four strains of pathogenic bacteria (B. subtilis, E. coli, A. feacalis (1) and A. feacalis (2)) were used. Inhibition zones were not formed for two strains (S. aureus and E.coli). Two strains (B. subtilis and A. faecalis (2)) were prepared to differentiate the effects of Berberis vulgaris aqueous and ethanolic extracts under TEM. This study revealed that the extracts of Berberis vulgaris were more effective than the extracts of F.arabica. According to our results of Berberis vulgaris can be considered as a natural antibiotic. |
