Abstract

Emerald and other beryl mineralization represent a family of the most valuable gemstone and the predominant source of berylliumaround the world and particularly in Egypt. These emerald/beryl mineralization are restricted in South Sinai (Wadi Sedri and Wadi Ghazala). They are also recorded in Igla area in CED, and South Eastern Desert (Zabara-Um Addebaa belt, Homret Akarem and Homret Mikipid area. There are two origin of beryl mineralization in this area:1) Magmatogenic type and this cleared that in beryl disseminated in magmatic pegmatite/quartz veins and phlogopite schist rocks. 2)Metamorphogenic type and this type were restricted only with phlogopite schist rocks. The examined both beryl of metamorphogenic and magmatogenic possess a narrow ranges of major, trace and rare earth elements and are sodic and Cr-dominant. It contains high concentrations of chromophore transition elements ordering Cr (up to 1511 ppm) >V (up to 242 ppm) >Sc (up to 245 ppm), giving rise green color, reflecting mafic-ultramafic contributions. Among the investigated emerald, Sikait area contains the highest BeO (av. 10.76 wt.%) concentration.
