Abstract

PartI: Reactions of 6-acftoacetyl-5-methoxy-and- 5-aceto-acetyl 6-methoxy-2, 3-diphenylbenzofuran with amides, esters nitriles, hydrazines and hydroxylamine hydrochloride. Both 6-acetoacetyl-5-methoxy-(Ib) and 5-acetoacetyl-6-methoxy-2, 3-diphenylbenzofuran (IIb)were obtained from 6-acetyl-5-methoxy-(Ia) and 5-acetyl-6-methoxy-2, 3-diphenyl-benzofuran (IIa), respectively, by Claisen condensation.
