Abstract
Recent advances in DNA techniques have provided a new approach to rapid dignoses of infectious diseases by the use of the polymerace chain reaction (PCR). The most common means of laboratory diagnosis of mycobacterial infections relies on the microscopic examintion of stained specimens followed by culturing.
