Abstract Viral hepatitis is a cause of considerable morbidity and mortality in the human population especially Africa’s countries. Five human hepatitis viruses distinguished by letters A,B,C,D and E have been identified. Recently, a new hepatitis virus was discovered and called (HGV). Type B and C cause chronic hepatitis but C tend to more severe, and represents a major health problem allover the world and chronic HCV infection can lead to serious consequences including cirrhosis and hepatocellular carcinoma. Hepatitis C virus is a major etiological factor in chronic hepatitis affecting blood donors in Egypt. |
