Abstract

Rate of seismic acitivity in Egypt and its vicinity is moderate, but evidence of strong earthquakes dates in this region back to as early as BC. 2200 and some have caused many casualties and widespread destruction over a larger area. Egypt experienced a dangerous earthquake on Oct., 12, 1992 (Mþ = 5.9). This earthquake was the first disastrous shock to occur near Cairo since 1847 and caused great damage in Cairo, Giza, the Delta Region and El - Fayoum Governorate. The damage caused by this earthquake was relatively sever, considering its moderate intensity.
