Abstract

The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dentofacial effects of the Jasper Jumper appliance in the treatment of Class II division 1 malocclusion.
A sample of ten Class II division I girls was used. The age was ranged from 8-10 years.
The patients were treated with Jasper Jumper appliance for a treatment period of eight months.
For each patient of the sample orthodontic models as well as lateral cephalornetric radiographs and extraoral and intraoral photographs were taken at the start of treatment and immediately after removal of the appliance.
On the basis of the results obtained from the present study, the following conclusions could be achieved:
A) The Jasper Jwnper appliance has the ability to treat Class II division 1 malocclusion through the following effects:
1- Stimulation of forward mandibular growth.
2- Minimal inhibition of forward maxillary growth.
3- Distalization of the upper molars.
4- Minimal mesial movement of the lower molars.
5- Palatal tipping of the upper incisors.
6- Proclination of the lower incisors(B) The effect of Jasper Jumper appliance on the dentition was pronounced thanits effect on the jaw bases.
C) Further researches are needed to document how to coiitrol the unwanted effects of the appliance, its mechanics, and its long-term effectiveness.
