Abstract

The storage of physiological fluids in the dry state (as stain) has
Regularly been applied in the forensic sciences. Dried bloodstains
Compirse the bulk of evidence submitted to serologists in the crime laboratory, especially drug abuse. Many drug abusers are forced to commit homicidal assaults, robbery, crimes or even suffer motor vehicle accidents under the effects of these drugs.
Forensic experts are usually faced with dried bloodstains at the
crime scene on different fabrics. So, estimation of bloodstains age is one of the important laboratory investigations in the field of forensic practice to determine the exact time of any crime. Also, the detection and confirmation of drugs of abuse in bloodstains is of considerable importance for the investigation of intoxication and screening of drug abusers.
The duties of the forensic toxicologist in postmortem investigation
include qualitative and quantitative analysis of drugs and poisons in biological specimens collected at autopsy. Also, interpretation of the analytical finding in regard to the physiological and behavioral effects of the detected chemicals on the deceased at the time of death.
The present study was conducted to estimate the bloodstains age
as a trial to determine the exact time of a particular crime. To study the effect of using different fabrics and storage temperatures on estimation of bloodstains age. To detect some drugs of abuse (morphine, phenobarbitone and diazepam) in the dried bloodstains. Also to study the effect of these drugs under various degrees of temperature in correlation to the age of bloodstains.
