Abstract

The aim of the present work is to design and synthesize new quinuclidine [1­azabicyclo [2.2.2] octane] derivatives which incorporate heterocyclic moieties of biological value (such as pyrazoles, pyrimidine, pyridine, pyridopyrimidine, pyran, benzopyran, thiophene, 1,3­diazepine and imidazole). On the other hand, it seemed of significance to undertake the Mannich reaction of quinuclidine moiety whereby a basic nitrogen side chain can be introduced into the quinuclidine nucleus since it is widely realized that the biological activity of many drugs is associated with or enhanced by the presence of basic nitrogen side chain in their molecule. Eventually, the synthesis of quinuclidine C­nucleosides have also been implemented. ? Ultimately, The structure of all new compounds prepared in this thesis were established by correct microanalytical as well as their spectral data. Some of the new prepared compounds in this thesis were selected and subjected for testing of their antibacterial activity. The results of this testing showed remarkable antibacterial activity of compounds 9a,21 and 25.
