Abstract

The thesis included a literature survey on the biological activity and structural chemistry of some azo compounds mainly from the coordinating behaviour view points. However, no coordination chemistry studies were reported for 5(4derivatives phenylazo)3phenylamino2thioxo4thiazolidinone (HLn) ligands, which is the aim of this thesis. Also, the thesis studied preparation of 3phenylamino2thioxo4thiazolidinone as well as 5(4derivatives phenylazo)3phenylamino2thioxo4thiazolidinone (HLn) ligands (pmethoxy, pmethyl, phydrogen, pchloro and pnitroaniline) and UO22+ complexes. The elemental analysis of all compounds are included. The different instruments utilized in these studies (UV. Vis, IR and NMR) are given and standarized. The potentiometric studies of HL1HL5 and their complexes and determination of dissociation constant (pK1H). The successive stability constants (log K1 and log K2) of complexes of HL1HL5 with Mn2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and Cu2+ were determined using different computional methods. The final part include the synthesis of several new coordination of dioxouranium(VI) heterochelates with tetradentate azorhodanine compounds. The ligands and complexes have been characterized by various physicochemical techniques. The bond lengths and the force constants have been calculated from asymmetric stretching frequency of OUO group. The plot of rUO and fUO versus v3 gives a straight line with increase the value of v3 decrease rUO and increase the force constant of the UO bond. There is also a straight line relationship between rUO and the psubstituent, Hamett?s constant ( R) with negative slope i.e. the higher the value of R, the lower rUO and the higher the force constant of the UO bond.
