Abstract Because of the increasing demand for tooth whitening systems, this field has shown successive improvements. Recently, whitening toothpastes have been introduced as a fast and easy method for teeth whitening. Accordingly, this research has got the concern of evaluating the change in surface roughness, hardness, and color of some esthetic restorative materials after their brushing in presence of several brands of whitening and nonwhitening toothpastes. For this reasons, 105 samples from each restorative material (composite, glassionomer & compomer) were prepared and divided into groups which were subjected to brushing in presence of 6 different types of toothpastes. The results showed an increase in surface roughness and surface hardness of most of the 5 samples, while changes in color were variable. Closeup brands showed the most effective whitening combined with less effect on hardness and roughness. |
