Abstract Forty patients of either sex were the subject of this study Their ages and body weight ranged from 20-63 years and 58-95 kgms respectively They were classif ied into The first group was from normotensive patients while the other three groups were from from controlled hypertensive patients maintained on .. reserpine . 01mg orally/day The first and second group were kept as control The third and fourth groups were pretreated by verapamil 150 ug/kg before induction of anaesthesia as verapamil 150 ug/kg before induction of anaesthesia as in all patients anaesthesia was induced thiopentone sodium 5-7 mg/kg, intubation facilitated by suxamethonium 1 mg/kg and maintained by halothane 0 5% (2-1)muscle relaxant and controlled ventilation. The heart rate, ECG changes, systolic and diastolic pressure were monitored and recorded preoperative, postverapamil administration one three and five minutes after laryngoscopy and intubation. |
