Abstract
The current work was carried out to investigate the anaesthetic modification of the haemodynamic, renal, hepatic and coagulation parameters in severely pre-eclamptic women submitted for Caesarean section. The aim was to identify a safe anaesthetic technique that can be preferably used with minimal side effects or complications either to the mother or her newborn. The study was performed on sixty pregnant severely pre-eclamptic women at full term for whom Caesarean section was indicated.
Full history was obtained and thorough clinical examination was done for all patients. Special investigations were ordered to study liver function, kidney function, serum electrolytes, haematological parameters and blood gasometry. All cases received medical treatment in the form of :antihypertensive (nifedipine, 10 mg),sedative (diazepam, 2 mg)and anticonvulsant (magnesium sulfate).
Patients were classified into three groups, each was comprised of 20 patients and all received pre-operative hydration in the form of lactated Ringer’s 1000-1500 ml. The first group received general anaesthesia, the group received subarachnoid analgesia, and the third group received epidural analgesia.
