Abstract

This study was carried out on sixty chidlren. In this study the use of different pre-surgical analgesic techniques were evaluated in 60 children aged 5-15 years undergoing tonsillectomy. They were included in double blind, placebo­controlled study, to receive analgesia through: Peritonsiller infiltration of 4ml bupivacine 0.125% and morphine 500 ug with total volUlne of 5ml for each side or intravenous injection of midazolam 50 uglKg-l, morphine 50 ug/Kg-I and ketmnine 1 mg/Kg. Accordingly children were randomly allocated into 4 groups. Group I, peritonsiller infiltration of 4ml bupivacaine
. 0.125% and morphien 500 ug with total volume of 5ml for each side, saline, palcebo, was injected 1. V. in separate 3 syringes. Group II, peritonsiller infiltration of 5nl1 saline for each side, in addition to I. V. injection of nlidazolam 50ug/Kg-1, nl0rphien 50ug/Kg-1 and ketamine 1111g/Kg in separate 3 syringes. Group III, peritonsillar infiltratipon of hupivacine 0.125% plus morphien 500 ug with total volume 5 Inl for each side, w· .h LV. injection of tnidazolanle 50 ug/Kg-l, morphine 50 ug.lKg-l and ketamine 1 mg/Kg. Group IV, peritonsillar inti ration with saline, 5ml for each side and I. V. saline, in 3 separate syringes immediately after induction.
