Abstract
This study was conducted on 24 patients submitted for lower abdominal operations to evaluate onset, spread, dur¬ation of analgesia and haemodynamic changes after subarach-noid blockage using 4 ml and 2 ml bupivacaine 0.5% in 81 dextrose. All patients were subjected to preoperative clinical examination to exclude any contraindication for spinal analgesia. Diazepam in a dose of 0.1 mg/kg was given intravenou¬sly one hour before lumbar puncture as premedicant drug. The patients included in this study were classified into two groups. The first group: The patients of this group (11 males and 5 females) received 4 ml bupivacaine 0.5% in 8% dextrose in subarach-noid space between L^ and L^. The second group: The patients of this group (6 males and 2 females) were given 2 ml of the same solution in subarachnoid space at the same level. The onset and level of analgesia were assesed by pin¬prick every minute for 20 minutes. The duration of analgesia.
