Abstract
B2-microglobulin is a low molecular we i ght protein 1.800 da 1 ton) which was first isolated by Berggard and axn(1968) is synthesized by all nucleated cells bpeci a I ly B and T lymphocytes and macrophages Its tructure has a high degree of similarity with homologous egions of light and heavy chains of immunoglobulins asides renal insufficiency, increased serum levels of B2- croglobulin were reported in a variety of diseases ncluding tumours, auto-immune disorders and ymphoproliferative disorders. Therefore serum B2- icroglobulin measurement cannot be regarded as a specific diagnostic tool However, it may be linked to the degree of stimulation of the immune system in auto-immune or cbronic inflammatory, diseases. Also immunological factors are likely to play an important role in many liver disease. In the present work serum and urinary B2-microglobulin concentration were studied in two common hepatic diseases, the acute viral B hepatitis and the compensated hepatosplenic bilharziasis. study demonstrated a significant elevation of serum B2-microglobulin.
