Abstract Infection is a serious complication in patients with leukemias, it is responsible not only for mortality but also for increased morbidity. The fungi which cause most of infection in cancer patients are Caridida species. Early detection and treatment of localized candidiasis can limit morbidity and prevent Candida dissemination from localized candidiasis. The aim of this study is to evaluate Ketoconazale versus nystatin as treatment for mucocutaneous candidiasis in leukemic children. In this studY, patients attending Haematology Unit of Paediatrio Department at Mansoura University for induction chemotherapy for acute leukemia were observed to detect those who developed mucocutaneous candidiasis and 20 of them were subjected to full detailed personal and medical historY, clinical examination, mycological examination to identify Candida albicans was done from the lesions of the patients. The patients were randomized to receive either ketoconazole or nystatin (10 of them received nystatin and 10 received ketoconazole). The time untill clinical cure is recorded and another sample for culture is taken to detect the mycologioal cure. |
