Abstract

Acoustic nerve tumours is benign neoplasm that affects the eighth cranial nerve more commonly the vestibular division. The tumour arises inside the internal auditory meatus. The surgical anatomy of he internal auditory meatus, its shape, dimensions, relations and contents are discussed. Acoustic nerve tumours account for about 7-10% of all intracranial tumours and about 75% of all cerebellopontine angle lesions. They occur most often in he middle decades of life and more common in females than males, -~ : As regards the symptom of acoustic neuroma, there are: : Qtolagical symptoms as unilateral sensorineural haering loss, tinnitus and dysequilibrium. Specific neurologic deficits which consisted of facial numbness, facial palsy, otalgia and change of taste. ’’ Generalized neurologic dysfunction which are headache, diplopia, nausea and vomiting associated with increased intracranial pressure. The symptoms generally reflect tumour size, virtually all tumours cause otologic symptoms, specific neurologic deficits are rarely seen untill tumour is larger than 2 cm. Generalised neurologic.
