Abstract

This work was carried out to evaluate a relatively new analgesic drug which is nalbuphine hydrochloride (nubain). The evaluation included its effect on the blood picture and some liver function tests. Its histopathological effects on the internal organs of rats were also studied. Finally the dependence liability of nalbuphine was evaluated by the use of naloxone hydrochloride. Morphine sulphate was studied for the purpose of comparison. The study included the following groups : First Group: To demonstrate the effect of nalbuphine, further subdivided into three subgroups: Subgroup 1: To demonstrate the effect of the analgesic dose of nalbuphine (0.0009 mg/gm) and showed no effect on the blood picture and liver function tests with a mild histopathological changes of the internal organs (venous congestion of the lung/ mild focal vascular degeneration of the liver and cloudy swelling of the kidney).
