Abstract

Many noxious stimuli, generally grouped under the term ”stress”, have been shown to influence some endocrine function. The results are variable, probably, because the response depends upon the nature, duration and the intensity the stimulus and upon the species being studied. Although many refrences have reported physiological and biochemical changes in response to stress, little information is available concerning the histological and histochemical changes in the endocrt na glands after exposure to different types of stress. The aim of this work is to study the histcology and histochemistry of some endocrine glands in rabbit before and after exposure to different types of stress and try to correlate the histochemical reactions to the microscopical structures and the already reported physiological and biochemical changes . This work was done on eighty a dult male rabbits. Four experiments were performed (15 rabbits in each one). Five animals were not exposed to any type of stress and were used as a control for each experiment. Each group of animals was exposed to one type of stress (burn, scalding, heat, cold). At the end of each experiment the animal were sacrified. The ,adrenal gland, thYLoid and pancreas were dissected. Paraffinsections were prepared and stained with Hx and E, PAS, chromium haematoxylin and phloxin, aldehyde.
