Abstract
This studv was done to evaluate the chances which occur in the cervix-uteri amonag Norplant users. using a combined colposcopic and cvtopatholocic study. If such chanages occur. are they time related or not ? This studvwas conducted on two groups of women attending the family Planning and Gvnaecoloagic outpatient clinic of Mansoura University Hospital. Each woman was followed up for one year, at 1.3,6 and 12 months. and was subjected to c1inical, cvtopatholocical and colposcopical examinations at each follow UP visit. These two groups of women were : A) NORPLANT users: This group consists of 50 women. admitited to theprocram of Norplant contraception. B)non- NORPLANT users (control groups): This group consists of 50 women. These cases were not usina: anv method of contraception or using either the safe period or coitus interruptus or both. The fOllowing selection criteria were consided in both groups: (1) Age of 25 to 4o years old. (2) Sexually active and tertile women. (3) It was assured that these women were not prea:nant. not using hormonal contraception or at least six months. and not usig drugs which may affect the cervicasmears. like digitalis. cortisone. etc..
