Abstract CorDeal complications after cataract surgery in the early post operative period are, corneal edema, delayed healing of the wound, and corneal wound infection. While complications Been in the late post operative period are persistant corneal edema, epithelial invasion of the anterior chamber, asti.gmatism, c orne sL anaesthesia, corneal vascularization and ulceration. Early corneal edema caused by endothelial damage due to inBtrumentation ox’ elevated intra ocu l ar pressure should be avoided by wide section, cryoextraction, and keeping irrigation to minimum. Delayed healing of the wound can be avoided by proper apposition of the wound edges and avoidence of excessive cauterization. Corneal wound infection is presented by corneal haze and keratic preci.pitates. It is treated by proper antibiotic and surgical repair of the wound. As regards the late complications, persistant corneal edema due to endothelial damage should be avoided by minimizing surgical trauma, and the us e of closed c hamb er technique wi th lens impla-ntation. |
