Abstract Lattice degeneration is a common degenerative disease of peripheral retina and vitreous which has a very early It is characterized by very typical his tolo¬clinically it manifests itself in a poly¬forms. The pathogenesis and heredity of lattice ~egeneration are still unclear. Although the vast majority of cases are non-progressive or very slowly change throughout life, a small number may lead to clinical retinal detachment. In this work, the fundus of one hundred patients of rhe¬gmatogenous (primary non-traumatic and secondary aphakic) retinal detachment were examined ophthalmoscopically for pre¬sence of lattice degeneration in both eyes and its relation to the retinal breaks if present. Lattice degeneraiton was found in 33% of the examined cases, with clear shift towards the younger ages, (67%) of those lattice patients were less than 40 years old. Bilate¬ral involvement was present in 57% of cases. from the 33 cases of lattice retinal detachment there were 25 (76%) phakic and 8 (24%) aphakic. The phakic lattice . retinal detachment accounted for 54% of the total number of phakic retinal detachment, while the aphakic latti.ce retinal detachment accounted for 31% of the total number of aphakic. |
