Abstract Most orthopaedic, surgeons arc nqualntcd with the clinical syndrome of pain in the front of the knee in young people. Anterior knee pain is caused by a number of disorders of the patella and of the patello-femoral joint which arc mainly related to abnormal variations in the position and shape of the patella. Radiography of the patella gives different measurements and angles that help in the diagnosis of many of such disorders of the patella. The evaluation of a patient with patello-femoral disorders requires a comprehensive physical examination of the entire lowor extremity and an equally comprehensive racllololrlc evaluation. Although multiple radiographic views and calculations aid in tho detection of a patcllo-fornorat abnormollty, to utllizo overy view and measurement would be impracticn 1-. Thus. an Individual routine, consisting of a reprouducible radiographic technique and various easly performed calculations that aid in the diagnosis, should be adopted. In this work we tried to fined out the Egyptian figures of measurement of the patella and to compare them with the universal ones. We studied three views, standing anteroposter-ior, lateral view and Merchcnt tangential view in 99 normal knees, 50 were males and 49 were females. Patella height was evaluated in the anteroposterior and lateral views. The normal patella touchs the dlstal femoral line. |
