Abstract The present work aims to study the effect of an exogenous opiate, orphine, on gastric acid and pepsin output and to investigate the interaction with other agents, acetylcholine and histamine that affect gastric secretion. 54 dogs of both sexes (12 - 16 kg body weight) comprised the material of this ’work. Basal gastric sample was taken for 15 minutes before morphine injection then 15 minutes samples were obtained after injection of morphine. Total acid output was determined according to the method of (Gradwohl, Determination of peptic activity was done according to the method . described by (Kunitz, 1946). Experimental groups were as follow: Group I: To study the effect of different doses of morphine on gastric secretion and the effect of naloxone was found to reverse the effect of morphine . Group Il: To study the effect of morphine after acetylcholine and its antagonist (atropine) on gastric secretion. Group III: To study the effect of morphine after histamine and its antagonist (cimetidine) on gastric secretion. |
