Abstract In this study, six new synthatic biguanide derivatives were subjected to pharmacological study for evaluation of their potcmtial hypoglyce8mic effect. The chemical struc. ture of each of these compounds is as follows N-btttyl carbomoyl Dorpholido biguanide (Cpnpound 1). Ethyl cnlbofroyl morpholinobiguanide (COLlpound 2). _ 24-dichlorphGnyl carbamoyl morpholinobiguanide Compound 3)._ 2_dimethyl 9minoethyl morpholinobiC unide(Compound 4)._2-diethyl arninoethyl norpholinobigucll (Compound 5)._p-chlorph.<nyl carbamoyl morpholinobigu3,lide (C01:1pound 6). The hypoglycaemic effect of th8se compounds; together with matfollin as standard, was studiscL in normal and alloxandictic rats Toxicity tests well as pharmacologica1 profile of the test com.pounc1s which produced significant hypoglycaemic effect, were done. The data obtained in this study could be sum.marized as 1- Metf ormin produced significant reduction of the blood glucose 13vel in normal and alloxiu-diabetic rats in dose lev(’ls of 20 mg/kg and 50 mg/hS orally. The hypoglycacnaic effect lasted for 2L~ bourse The LD50 was 4lG.’)lJg/b:C;, and the therapeutic iodeces were 20.85 to 8.3. The Gubacute toxicity tests. |
