Abstract
Elderly population or geriatrio group is composing nearly 7.5% of the Egyptian population. Little is recognised about the heal th status of the elderly in Egypt and most researches implemented were more in Capital cities as Cairo and Alexandria. So, identification of the biologioal, psyohologioal and sociological influences on the health states of the elderly individuals living in either urban or rural areas of Dakahlia governorate was the main goal of such study. A descriptive analysis of data obtained from oross sectional study of 601 elderly persons aged 55 years and more was carried out. Out of this individuals 148 were in the pregeriatrio group (55-60 years), of whom 75 individuals were males and 73 were females; while 453 individuals of them were in the geriatrio groups (60 years and above); of whom 323 were males and 130 of them were females. They attended the different departments of the outpatient clinios at Mansoura University Hospi tal and the outpatient clinio of some rural health units. Also residents of three of the hostels.
