Abstract
In this studY 27 patients (30 extremities) were included being referred for US evaluation for suspicion of having DVT of the lower limb. They were 17 females and 10 males with their ages ranged from 20-64 years. All cases ~ were subjected to: history. local examination and high- resolution B-mode US examination. Audible Doppler examination was done for 5 cases prior to B-mode US examination. CT of the leg was performed in two cases and ascending venography was performed for 6 extremities for correlation of findings. PI~in X-ray chest was done for two cases who was presented with chest manifestations. All the data of the 3D extremities were tabulated and analysed so as to demonstrate the US findings in normal and thrombosed veins. Of the 30 extremities. 11 were normal. 15 had DVT. one was indeterminate and additional information was obtained by US in 3 cases included the diagnosis of Baker’s Cyst. hematoma and soft tissue mass in the calf. In all the normall 11 extremities there was complete compressibility of veins with increase in their diameter in response to performance of Valsalva maneuver. The following criteria were found in the 15 limbs with . DVT: Noncompressibility of the affected vein.
