Abstract

Foot lesions are very common among diabetics • pathogenesis includes Ischaemia : Caused partly by atherosclerosis and partly by microangiopathy in the foot vessels , causing the classic diabetic occlusive pattern , Peripheral neuropathy : Which is predominantly sen¬sory, caus rngHoae of foo t sensations and its liab¬ility to be injured by any minute trauma and Infeotion : It is common in diabetics because of impaired leuoocytic function, microangiopathy , au’to aympa’the c tcrny and the high .dex tzro ae content of the tissues, and also, the low temperature of the distal lower extremity has a significant effect on which microbial flora will effect it • A mixture of organisms is frequently ’found in the infected tissues of the diabetic feet, including cOli¬froms, staphylococci, streptococci and klebsiella, several of the.se may give rise to gas in the tissue’s , does not therefore necessarily indicate the pre¬of clostridium • All the three major factors, mentioned above, are present in all clinical entities, but in different combinations with predominance of one element in each enti ty •
