Abstract
The present study included 70 premenopausal non pregnant normotensive patients and 1 o control healthy subjects of matched age and sex. The patients were divided according to the presence of either obesity or NIDDM and according to body fat distribution into the following groups: I Diabetic groups included 42 patients divided into 3 groups: a- Diabetic non obese group (14 patients). b- Diabetic obese android group (14 patients). c- Diabetic obese gynecoid group (14patients). II Obese non diabetic groups included 28 patients divided into 2 groups: d- Obese android group (14 patients). e- Obese gynecoid group (14 patients). The patients and control were selected after exec1usion of other factors which affect serum SHBG such as contaceptive pills, pregnancy, cigarete smoking, menstrual irregularities, hirsutism, virilism, renal, hepatic or endocrinal disease. The studied subjects stop all medications apart form oral antidiabetic.
