Abstract Spondylolisthesis has been held responsible for a good percentage of patients presented with low back pain and/or leg pain. Since the first escription of spondylolisthesis about 150 years ago, much controversy has been present as regards its etiology as well as the different treatment odalities. The aim of this work was to evaluate the treatment of lumbar and lumbosacral spondylolisthesis by different surgical techniques, throwing be light on criteria of patient selection, possible indications of surgery as well as the the difficulties and complications arising during and after Thus, we tried to answer the difficult question: How to choose proper surgical modality suitable for each patient, type of spondylolisthesis and pathology involved? Material : The material of this work comprised 50 patients with symptomatic lumbar or lumbosacral spondylolisthesis, each with a definite one or more indication of surgical intervention. The age of the patients ranged :between 16 and 80 years with a mean of 42.1 years. There were 22 males (44%) and 28 females (56%). The spondylolisthesis was isthmic in 44 patients (88%) and degenerative in 6 patients (12%). Methods : All patients were treated surgically, half at Mansoura University Hospital in -Egypt and the other half at Hessing Clinic in Germany, by different surgical modalities as mentioned in detail in the thesis. |
