Abstract Every newborn has his right to effective, complete resuscitation immediately after birth in order to safeguard against the possible morbidities and probably mortality related to asphyxia. In a countery like Egypt where antenatal care is still far beyond ideal and a great percentage of deliveries are home deliveries, neonatal asphyxia represents one of the major challenges to the national health programs. There has been an effort done by the Egyptian ministry of health (EMOH) through. the Egyptian Neonatal care program (ENCP) to implement the resuscitation. Guidelines adopted by the American Academy of pediatrics (AAP) and American Heart Association (A.HA) throughout the country. Education and training programs have been established including physicians and nurses attending deliveries, Obstetricians, Pediatricians and obstetrical and neonatal nurses. Emphasis has been made on effective communication between both teams. Program staff and certified trainers are available as well as manuals (Little et. aI., 1996). Important aspects of the program are :- 1.Providing system of effective and immediate communication between obstetric and neonatal teams to ensure the presence. |
