Abstract Colorectal cancer is one of the most frequently encountered cancers ifY estern countries, also it is common in our locality, but without a true idence. Surgery is the main stay in the treatment, but the local recurrence er surgery alone remains high, ranging from 200/0 to 500/0. Pelvic recurrence is a painful and debilitating condition, and two irds of cancer related deaths are associated with tumor in the pelvis. Reports on combined chemo-radiotherapy in locally advanced ’ectosigmoid tumors proclaimed that a significant number of tumors were resectable following this neoadjuvant strategy, and some of the patients had a long disease free survival. Some of the reports on peri operative chemotherapy for resectable colon cancer suggested improved DFS and overall survival. In this study, we have 2 treatment groups: 1)Twenty-five patients with locally advanced rectosigmoid,as determined by transrectal ultrasound and/or CT scan, they received chemoradiotherapy as follows: 2 Cycles ofLY 200 mg/m2/2 h infusion dl--5-FU 400 mg/m2 bolus |
