Abstract . This experimental study was carried out to evaluate the effect of meloxicam, a specific COX-2 inhibitor, on ovulation and pregnancy in albino rats. This study was conducted on female albino rats in which the four stages of estrous cycles were determined by vaginal smears. They were divided into 2 main groups: Ovulation and pregnancy groups. 1- Ovulation groups: Rats at diestrus phase were divided into 3 groups, each comprised -. 10 animals: - , - Control group: received only saline. _ Group A: received meloxicam at a dose of 0.7 mg / kg / day for successive 15 days (3 estrus cycles). _ Group B: received meloxicam at a dose of 1.4 mg / kg / day for successive 15 days. For all groups, the drug was given orally through a gastric tube. They were examined for ovulation by: - _ Successive vaginal smears at every stage of the 3 estrous cycles. - At the end of post estrus phase, the animals were sacrified and dissected, the uterus and ovaries were removed and examined histopathologically. The results were: No effect of meloxicam on ovulation either by vaginal smear, ovarian or uterine samples. |
