Abstract

The present work is undertaken to study the distribution of VIP different regions of the intestine of adult albino-rats. Thirty adult animals were scarified, in neutral formalin, dehydrated, cleared in xylem, embedded in paraffin and sectioned. 1- Haemntoxylin and eosin stain for routine histological examination. 2- Glee’s silver stain for evaluation of the normal pattern of intestinal innervations. 3- Immunohistochemistry for studying of the distribution of VIP in the. Intestine. In the present study, VIP-IR staining of the duodenal mucosa reveals high intensity in the cytoplasm of epithelial cells that cover the villi and line the base and around the core of the villi, moderate intensity in the crypt-villous junction and mild intensity in the crypt region. Sub mucosa reveals moderate intensity of immunoreactive nerve cells and fibers in the sub mucous plexus, Brunners glands show highly stained periphery and mild staining of the center.
