Abstract
(M OF WORK: TO assess LV-performance by non-invosive techniques OF STIs and echocardiography in Bilharzial women using OC pills as a method for birth control. To delineate any difference in LV-performance (by STIs) between Bilharzial women and Non-bilharzial women when using OC-pills.SUMMARY OF WORK: The material of the present study comprised 144 women with bilharzial hepatic fibrosis (32 never used OCs; is whis bilharzial hepatic fibrosis (32 never used OCs; is whis history of using OC and 94 still using OC) as 170 Non bilharzial women (selected from our previous work in 1990) 34 never used OCs; 26 with past history of using OCs; and 110 still using OC-pills They were selected from Out-Patient InternAl Medical Department Mansoura University Hospital well as from personal communication.Their ages ranged from 20 to 35 years. The duration of Oc-usage ranged 2 to 12 years. Excluded from this study wo-men with hypertension; renal impairment; stage III & IV HSB, . coronary artery disease or other cardiovascular & pulmonary diseases; lactating or pregnant women as well as women of more than 35 years of age.
