Abstract Introduction: Neuroblastoma is a tumour of sympathetic nervous system derived from neural crest cells that migrate to form adrenal medulla and spinal sympathetic ganglia. It accounts for 10% of all childhood malignancies. The median age at diagnosis is 2 years the cause of neuroblastoma is unknown. The therapeutic management of neuroblastoma ranges from surgery alone in stage I disease to triple modality therapy with surgery, radiotherapy and chemotherapy for advanced disease. Material and Methods: This retrospective study includes 45 patients with neuroblastoma. These patient investigated with laboratory tests, radiological investigation, radionuclide imaging histopathologic investigation. patients treated with different lines of treatment. Results: Age ranged from 3-192 months with male to female ratio 1.8:1 Adrenal gland was the commorest site in (77.7%), 44.4% of patients diagnosed with stage IV. Chemotherapy was the commonest line of used treatment. 3 years DFS & OAs were 60% and 78% respectively. Summary & Conclusion: We recommend screening programme on neonate to explore early stage & improve cure rate. The use of combined lines of treatment are the best for treatment of neuroblastoma. |
