Abstract - Background and aim of the work: fractures and dislocation of the spine are serious injuries that most commonly occur in young people. The aim of this study is to evaluate the results and complications of transpedicular fixation systems in treatment of unstable thoracolumbar and lumbar fractures. - Material And methods: 58 patients of unstable thoracolumbar and lumbar fractures with 62 fracture. All of this had undergone internal operation fixation with steffee plates. - Results: the over all results were as follow 24.14% excellent, 67.24% good and 8.63% fair, only (22.4%) of patients had complete paraplegia and 58.6% were neurologically free. - Conclusions: transpedicular dual steffee plate is a good instrumentation for fixation of unstable fractures of the lower dorsal and lumbar spine. It provides a high rate of correction and stability. Pedicle screw fixation in thoracic spine remains a technical challenge and should not be used routinely especially in upper thoracic spine. |
