Abstract One hundred six young adult male Syrian hamsters ( anr were divided into four experimental groups. In group 1A, 5 hamsters received 1 application of 7,12 diw (a)anthracene (CMBA) right and left buccal pouches. Five control animals received 1 application of mineral oil (MO) to the left buccal pouches. Animals sacrificed at 4½ hours, 24 hours, 48 hours, 1 week and 2 weeks the DMM and MO painting. Vlnblastine was injected 4½ hours prior each sacrifice time. Another 5 hamsters received 2 applications of a day apart and 5 control animals received 2 MO applications. Sacrifice time and vinbiastine injections were similar to the group with DMBA application. A third group of 5 hamsters received 3 DMBA applications on alternate days and 5 control animals received similar applications of MO. Sacrifice time and vinblastine injections were similar to the other two groups. In group 1B, 15 hamsters received 1, 2 and 3 DMBA applications as above and 15 hamsters received 1, 2 and 3 MO applications. Tritiated thymidine was injected immediately after the last treatment in each case animals were sacrificed at intervals simi1 to those in group ]A. In group II, 13 animals received 1, 2 and 3 DMBA applications as above and 3 animals received MO applications as above. Thymidine was injected immediately after the last treatment in each case and animals sacrificed after 10 weeks. |
