Abstract The variability and controversy about the methods and their results to determine the vertical rest position, emphasizes the importance of finding a procedure that is more precise. For this study twenty edentulous patients were selected from among patient attending complete denture construction in prosthetic department-Faculty of Dentistry - Mansoura University. All patients had to meet the following criteria: no history suggesting neuromuscular disease and no signs and symptoms of stomatognathic dysfunction. Maxillary and mandibular acrylic trial denture base were constructed for every patient and tested for adequate retention. The surface electromyographic activity of right and left masseter were recorded separately by bipolar surface electrodes, before and after trial denture base wearing. Also, for each patient cephalometric radiographs were made and traced to determine the cephalometric rest position . |
