Abstract This thesis proposed a new modulation scheme, namely, hybrid MSK/MSK. MSK/MSK consists of two minimum shift keying type signaling schemes in parallel; one of them is sinusoidal, and the other is cosinusoidal. The bandwidth efficiency increased by a factor of two over that of MSK as the MSK/MSK bit rate is twice that of MSK. To improve the error performance of the proposed scheme, Multiple Trellis Coded Modulation (MTCM) is used to have TrellisCoded MSK/MSK (TCMSK/MSK). For using the proposed scheme with mobile satellite channel, a mathematical formula is introduced to the trellis coding design to provide a constant envelope modulation scheme called Constant Envelope Trellis Coded MSK/MSK (C.E.TCMSK/MSK). C.E.TCMSK/MSK is less affected by the nonlinearity distortion in satellite channels. In addition, this thesis introduces a derivation for the error probabilities in received data bits evaluated in AWGN, fading channels, and the nonlinearity effect of the high power amplifiers used in satellite systems and compared with some other modulation techniques |
