Abstract

The purpose of the investigation was to compare the shear bond strengths of a fluoride release, one-component system, bonding agent (Syntac Sprint) with that of a non fluoride release, one-component system, bonding agent (Exite) and that of a two-component system, bonding agent (Scotch Bond Multi-Purpose).
Based on the results of this investigation the following conclusions can be made:
1.In general, Syntac Sprint showed lowest shear bond strengths to enamel and dentin. However, the measured shear bond strengths to enamel and dentin, when the manufacturer’s instructions were followed, were adequate to counteract the estimated polymerization shrinkage of composite resins.
2.Exite showed the highest shear bond strength with enamel. While Scotch Bond Multi-Purpose exhibited showed the highest shear bond strength to dentin when the manufacturer’s instructions were followed
3.Application of any of the three bonding agents to dentin in two successive layers has no significant effect on increasing the shear bond strength.
4.In General, application of the bonding agents without dentin conditioning resulted in low shear bond strengthvalues that cannot overcome the polymerization shrinkage of composite.
