Abstract

Two field experiments were carried out at Meet Faris village, near ElMansoura Dakahlia District, during the two growing seasons of (1999 and 2000) to study the effects of different combinations of mineral fertilizers of nitrogen and phosphorus with biofertilizers of biogen and phosphorien on growth, yield and yield components as well as chemical constituents of cucumber. The obtained results could be summarized as follows: ? A Vegetative growth: 1 Application of 75% recommended dose of mineral NP fertilizers in the presence of biofertilizers, i.e., biogen and phosphorien significantly affected postively most of vegetative growth characteristics (stem length, leaf area, number of branches/plant, fresh and dry weight and total chlorophyll) in both seasons of the study. 2 Application of 25% recommended dose of mineral N with biogen gave the lowest values of leaf area, fresh and dry weight and total chlorophyll in both seasons, while application of 25% NP recommended dose with biofertilizers biogen and phosphorien gave the lowest values of stem length and diameter and number of leaves/plant in both seasons of the study. B Flowering: 1 Application of 75% recommended dose of mineral NP fertilizers in the presence of biofertilizers, i.e., biogen and phosphorien significantly hastened the earliness of female flowers production in cucumber plants in both seasons. 2 Application of 75% recommended dose of mineral NP fertilizers in the presence of biofertilizers, i.e., biogen and phosphorien significantly affected number of male flowers, number of female flowers and sex ratio. This treatment gave the best result in these characters followed by 75% N plus biogen and control treatments, respectively in both of study seasons. C Yield and its components: 1 Application of 75% recommended dose of mineral NP fertilizers with biofertilizers (biogen and phosphorien) significantly increased total yield followed by the the treatment of 75% P + phosphorien, the treatment of 100% mineral NP (control) and 75% N + biogen treatment in both seasons. However, the highest early yield was obtained from control treatment (full NP recommended dose) followed by 75% NP recommended dose with biofertilizers biogen and phosphorien and 75% N recommended dose plus biogen in both seasons. 2 Application of 25% recommended dose of mineral NP with biogen and phosphorien produced the lowest values of total yield and its components. 3 Fruit quality characteristics (fruit weight, fruit length and fruit shape) were improved by receiving 75% NP recommended dose with biofertilizers biogen and phosphorien. D Chemical constituents: 1 Application of 75% NP recommended dose with biofertilizers of biogen and phosphorien significantly increased the concentration of nitrogen, phosphorus and potassium in plant leaves. This treatment increased also ascorbic acid and total soluble solids (TSS) in fruits in both seasons of the study 2 Cucumber plants receiving 25% NP recommended dose with biogen and phosphorien gave the lowest concentration of ascorbic acid in fruits, while the lowest values of soluble solids contents in the fruits were produced from plants receiving 25% P recommended dose with phosphorien in both seasons.
