Abstract <U+2022> Evaluation of hybrids for heterosis breeding based on five consideration, mean performance, heterobeltiosis (BP), midparent heterosis (MP), standard heterosis (SH) and SCA effects indicated that, out of 15 hybrid rice combinations, five hybrid combinations, namely IR69625A x GZ5121R, IR58025A x Giza182R, IR68888A x Giza178, IR69625A x Giza178R and IR58025A x Giza178R recorded significantly positive values and were most promising ones, for grain yield and most desirable characters and could be utilized as commercial hybrids. <U+2022> Among the parents, the CMS IR68902A, IR58025A and IR69625A as female lines and Giza178R as restorer lines were found to have favourable genes for one or more characters along with grain yield and their could be used in hybrid rice breeding programme. <U+2022> The present line Giza178R could be utilized either for producing new hybrid combinations through another CMS or for developing new parental lines. |
