Abstract Solid organ transplantation (SOT) procedures have become an important alternative for the treatment of different end stage organ disease .Renal transplant recipients are predisposed to superficial fungal infections caused by graftpreserving immunosuppressive therapy. The objective of this thesis has been to compare the occurrence of oral fungal infection in renal transplant patients receiving cyclosporine and tacrolimus based regimens and its response to different antifungals by antifungal susceptibility testing. It has been done on sixty patient from Mansoura urology&nephrology center and ten healthy subjects.Oral swabs have been taken from suspected oral lesions, inoculated on suitable media and incubated.Identification and antifungal susceptibility test have been done to the Candida species. t was found that occurrencof oral candidiasis in kidney transplant patients develops equally in both groups but much earlier in patients on tacrolimus before those on cyclosporine. In terms of effectiveness of antifungal drugs, mycostatin prove higher efficency. Ketoconazole has been slightly weaker than nystatin.Miconazole, econazole and flucytosine have been moderate in their antifungal effect in a descending order. |
