Abstract

Liver diseases is considered to be one of the major public health problems worldwide because of the severity of the disease and its high mortality rate. p53 gene is a tumor suppressor gene that is located on the short arm of chromosome 17. The aim of the present study was to identify p53 tumor marker in different liver diseases using immunohistochemical techniques. The material of this study consists of liver tissues and serum samples of 70 HCV infected patients with different pathological disorders. Also, serum samples were collected from twenty (20) healthy volunteers as a negative control group. positive cytoplasmic immunostaining for p53 was detected in HCC tissue. The immunoblotting (Western blot) analysis, showed a molecular weight of 53 kDa for the single immunoreactive band in the sera of the hepatic patients. ELISA was detected p53 antigen in serum 51.5% of 70 HCV patients; 42.5% of non cirrhotic; 50% of cirrhotic and in 90% of HCC patients. the current study concluded that The p53 antigen can be detected early in HCV associated liver diseases. So, it can be used as a marker in order to assess the clinical implications and prognoses of HCVinfected patients associated different liver diseases.
